India’s thousands of years of medicine, Ayurveda (the sci-ence of life), has once again taken its rightful place in Hungar-ian health care and medicine since 1991 as a holistic human and veterinary medicine, that protects the environment (using solely the healing power of herbs and minerals), improves eco-nomic performance, and opens up a new perspective in line with modern (allopathic) medicine, ensuring that the values of humanity and nature are preserved for centuries to come.

Garuda Trade Ltd. (1991) and the Hungarian Ayurveda Medical Founda-tion (1996) pioneered in this fi eld, and, by implementing a 30-year introduction program for Ayurveda from 1990 to 2020, also laid a solid foundation for this medicine, which was the fi rst in Europe to become an offi  cial health-care system in Hungary by Government Decree 40/1997. Former Hungarian diplomat Dr. Ist-ván Riesz (Ayu) Hon. and his family (who worked in India) played a decisive role in this extremely complex work, launching a new herbal revolution in Hungary since 2004, and helping to protect the environment and wildlife. The publication “Ayurveda and the Racing Pigeon” discusses the topic at a popular scientifi c level – summarizing 20 scientifi c publications – and providing information not only about the pigeons and poultry, but also about almost the entire fauna. In chapters 4 and 5 of the book, the description of the licensed veterinary products can be found in both Hungarian and English, so that the experts of the surround-ing countries can also have the chance to learn about this ancient knowledge, which can create a sustainable future in animal husbandry along with modern technology.

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medical system dating back to 3000 BC and to the Indus civilisation. The guiding principle is that the mind and the body in¬fl u-ences each other, so promoting a balance between them creates better health, and it uses only natural herbal ingredients in its medicines. Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word and is made up of two components, „Ayush” meaning Life and „Veda” mean-ing Science, hence Ayurveda is the „Science of Life”.

In today’s fast and competitive world there has been a revolution in our eating habits and life style. We are exposed more to various types of stress and strain which tells upon our health. Even our diet has become more synthetic than the natural one; which exposes us to toxins, resulting in various disorders. With the growing awareness of the dangers and limitations of the allopathic system of treatment the answer now is Ayurveda.
